Christine’s Chocolate Creations is a sweet little business that creates treats to order or pick up in stores throughout Central Pennsylvania. All their chocolates are handcrafted to make each individual piece unique and flavorful. Delicious products include various delights dipped in milk, dark, or white chocolate. Depending on your particular sweet tooth, you can purchase nuts including walnuts, cashews, and peanuts; pretzels; popcorn; and dried fruits including mango, apricots, orange peel, and ginger. In Carlisle, you can find Christine’s goodies at the Courthouse Commons Coffee Shop, the USAWC Alumni Association, and the Cumberland County Historical Society. Bedford Street Antiques: Warehouse of Treasures

For a tour through Carlisle history, step into Bedford Street Antiques. This enormous antique store, with two floors of 24,000 square feet, is a historic gem itself. Before becoming Bedford Street Antiques, the building was a church built in 1807, a manufacturing plant, the Carlisle Garment Company’s factory for ‘Molly Pitcher Dresses,’ then a flea market and auction house. In 2003 the Roell family purchased the expansive warehouse and opened its doors to over 100 area antique dealers. With so many vendors, the store is a destination antique market that requires several visits to fully absorb. Mostly stocked with early 20th century finds, a careful shopper can find antique furniture of every kind, weathered ceramics and dinner sets, framed art, and various collectibles such as jewelry and toys.

Carlisle Theatre: Cultural Center in Carlisle

Amidst historic downtown Carlisle, the Carlisle Theatre retains the plush decadence of an old time movie theater. Built in 1939 then closed in 1986, the Theatre was restored by volunteers to its original Art Deco style in 1993 and has since become a cultural force in the city. While screenings are no longer 25 cents a pop, the Theatre shows typically one or two independent or vintage films a week usually at 7:30 p.m. or 2 p.m. Generous sponsors often rent the space and offer special film screenings. In addition, the Theatre hosts the resident Carlisle Theatre Company, which performs four family-friendly shows per season. The group brings Broadway plays such as Annie and Guys and Dolls to Central Pennsylvania. Local and national musicians also grace the stage for uniquely luxurious nights of live music.
